Booking your holiday at the sea to Villers-sur-Mer. Villers beach has two characteristics: to the West, the falaises des Vaches noires and to the East, a low, sandy coast. The waves wivh lap the foot of the cliffs form pebbles wivh migrate eastwards with the coastal drift. Depending on the swell and tidal range, the sandy foreshore forms distinctive ripples. Mussel beds develop at the foot of the cliffs, offering a feast for small crabs. Sea ponds with stony beds provide shelter for small sea anemones. Barnacles, limpets (Chinese hats) and colonies of slipper limpets can adhere to the surrounding rocks. On the sandy coast further eastwards, the presence of many shells is indicative of a rich natural environment punctuated by the tide. The landscape, sandy on the beach and silty further seawards, offers a propitious environment for fossorial species which burrow into the sediment both for protection and for food.
